Creo que no me equivoco si digo que estamos ante uno de esos discos que exclusivamente se aman o se odian, pues ya he sido testigo de reacciones absolutamente adversas a la escucha de “Alight In Ashes”. La mía ha sido de encantamiento ante la mezcla única e hipnótica de estilos que lleva a cabo este dúo canadiense y que parece la continuación natural de “The Die Is Cast”, después de dos experimentos intermedios que tiraban por otros derroteros. En este último disco Menace Ruine sintetizan los elementos compositivos enfocando la música alrededor la voz de Geniveve y las murallas disonantes de la guitarra, con la percusión y los sonidos medievales de fondo. El resultado, si bien no es quizá tan romántico como en “The Die Is Cast”, es tan o más magnético y evocador de tiempos remotos que aquel y, de gustarte, te quedarás totalmente enganchado. Eso sí, no es una música para cualquier oído.
I think i'm not in a mistake if i say this is one of those records that can be only loved or hated. I've already seen totally hostile responses to the listening of “Alight in Ashes”.Mine has been, of course, of enchantment to the unique and hypnotic style mixture created by this canadian duo. This release seems to be the natural following to “The Die Is Cast”, after two intermediate experiments driving the sound towards other directions. Here, Menace Ruine synthesize the composition elements focusing the music on Geniveve's voice and the disonant walls of noise created by the guitar, with the percussion and the medieval sounds remaining on the background. The output, if not as romantic as in “The Die Is Cast”, is as magnetic and ancient-times evoking -or even more- and, if you like it, you'll get totally catched. I must also dare say that is not a kind of music suitable to anyone.
